Description

Block’hood is a neighborhood-building simulator that celebrates the diversity and experimentation of cities. You will have full access to 80+ building blocks to combine and create unique neighborhoods, and discover the hidden inhabitants of each combination. The game will embark in a story of ecology, understanding how resources are needed to unlock new configurations and allow prosperous neighborhoods. You will need to avoid the decay of your city block by making sure each unit doesn’t run out of “Resources”.

History

Development history

Block’hood - originally named BLOCK - was envisioned to breach the digital with the physical, allowing everyone to have a chance to participate in designing of a city. Through friendly competitions like LA2050 Grant (http://www.la2050.org/), the game has transformed itself both conceptually and aesthetically to incorporate complex resource input and outputs. The transformation added another level of depth in game playing, forcing players to think ecologically (not just in terms of thinking “green” but how things in the world are interdependent), which made the game more fun, yet educational.

Features

The game is constantly being updated and there will be many “modes” of plays: - ‘Sandbox' Mode’ to build a neighborhood without any set objective. Players are free to envision any neighborhood as long as the resource requirements are met. - ‘Challenge Mode’ to play with a limited number of resources and a constrain set of blocks to achieve a particular goal. - 'Education Mode' to learn about the challenges our cities face today. - ‘Research Mode’ to play with real world values, and use Block’hood as a research tool. - ‘Modding Mode’ to alter and repurpose for any creative use. - ‘Custom App Mode’ to repurposed for many different applications.
